Why Maria Sharapova is the role model for young players?

Professional tennis player Maria Sharapova has many qualities, which makes her a great role model. Aspirants, who want to become professional tennis playes, can learn many things from her.

She recently won French Open defeating Romanian player Simona Halep by 6-4 6-7 6-4. It was her second French Open title. She has won 32 Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles titles. In these titles, five are Grand Slam singles. This right-handed player made her professional debut at the age of 17 in 2004.

She started playing tennis at the tender age of four. She got the first training in this sport from a Russian coach Yuri Yutkin. Then she trained at the Rick Macci Tennis Academy. At the age of just 13, she won Eddie Herr International Junior Championships in the girls' 16 division in 2000. In 2005, she became first Russian woman to hold the world No. 1 ranking. She won a silver medal in Summer Olympic Games 2012 in women's singles.

Her game has an aggressive touch and she uses powerful forehand and backhand. She is very fast on the court considering her height. Her serve shots are powerful whether it is first or second serve. She plays good on the hard and grass courts. Over the years, she has improved her game and now she plays good on clay court. She has won many awards and made many records. She is been ESPY Best Female Tennis Player in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2012.

She has been a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) since 2007. It is concerned with the Chernobyl Recovery and Development Programme. She donated 210,000 US dollars for this project and 50,000 US dollars for Beslan school hostage crisis victims. She raised money for the Florida Hurricane Relief Fund. For her charity works, she has Maria Sharapova Foundation.

Young player can learn many things from her career and life. Her successful career shows that learning from a young age helps a lot in future years. She suffered from a shoulder injury and most people though that after the surgery, her career was over. She was out of the court for almost a year. However, she made a great comeback after surgery and won various matches.
